What to Put on a Stubby Cooler (and What to Skip)

Not sure where to start? The best designs are personal, bold and easy to read at arm’s length. Here’s what works.

Ideas that work

  • A name and a date — the simplest keepsake, and a favourite for weddings and milestone birthdays.
  • A photo — the cheeky one, the throwback, the whole crew. Printed full-wrap in colour that doesn’t fade.
  • A caricature — turn the guest of honour into a cartoon. Big for 21sts, bucks nights and hens dos.
  • A logo or club crest — your brand or team colours, brand-checked before print.
  • An in-joke or nickname — the line only your group will get. That’s the one people keep.

Design tips

  • Keep text bold and big — it has to read from across the room, not just up close.
  • High contrast wins — light text on a dark background, or dark on light. Avoid pale-on-pale.
  • Use the whole wrap — the full cooler is your canvas, front, back and around.
  • Send the clearest photo you have — the sharper the file, the sharper the print.

What to avoid

  • Tiny text crammed in — small writing looks cheap and gets lost on a curved surface.
  • Low-contrast colours that wash out at drink-holder size.
  • Expecting neon from standard ink — true fluoro needs fluorescent ink, not a bright standard colour.
  • Leaving important details right on the edge — keep names and dates clear of the seam.
